Tusa: Keep children off Veterans' Memorial

Posted: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2009

We've attended a couple of gatherings in Pequot Lakes lately - Bean Hole Day and Chokecherry Festival, and have noted both times, children (often accompanied by parents) climbing on and jumping off the monuments in the Veterans' Memorial in Trailside Park.

Yes, children need a place to play, but there are other parks in town with playground equipment.

These monuments are to remind us of the ultimate sacrifice made by generations of men and women of our community. Sacrifices that enable us to live in freedom today. To disrespect this memorial is to show disrespect to the men and women who served and died for us.

Parents - educate your children, please!
