Lakewood Health System launches advanced patient care IT system

Posted: WEDNESDAY, JULY 11, 2012

Lakewood Health System in Staples recently launched a new health information technology (IT) system in its efforts to create an advanced, "paperless" electronic health record (EHR).

This new system captures health information electronically as patients receive care, and provides physicians with up-to-date information when and where they need it - from the ER to the patient bedside.

This IT solution, called Paragon, is from San Francisco-based McKesson, one of the world's largest healthcare technology and services company. With the installation, Lakewood joins the growing number of hospitals across the nation using EHRs to help improve patient safety and create greater efficiencies in providing care.

With the Paragon system, all patient data is available in one place. This eliminates the need to search for patient data in multiple places and systems, and reduces the amount of time spent on creating and documenting patient care.

Any time physicians have access to an Internet connection, they can see patient laboratory results, radiology reports, transcription data, medical images and other documentation.

With this secure online view of the EHR, physicians can check in on patients and make care decisions whether in the hospital, their office or at home.
