PL youth teams enjoying success

The Pequot Lakes' 16-under fast-pitch softball team recently swept a home doubleheader over Baxter Blue 7-1 and 15-2. In the opener, winning pitcher Katie White struck out 13 and allowed just two hits in the five-inning contest. White also tripled to open the game and scored on a double by Jessica Kreitz.

Hannah Zimmerman, Kreitz and Taylor Crocker were all 2-for-3.

The second game ended in four innings. Crocker allowed just one hit in three innings while White Struck out all three Baxter hitter in the fourth. Pequot Lakes banged out 15 hits, including four by Kreitz. Miller was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, White was 2-for-3 with three runs, Zimmerman scored three times and Crocker had two hits.

14-U Blue team splits

At Perham on Monday, June 25, the Pequot Lakes Blue 14-under team lost the opener 14-6. Haley Wiebolt and Laura Squires each scored twice while Barb Miller had two hits.

In the second game, Pequot Lakes scored five times in the third inning for a 13-12 come-from-behind win. Wiebolt was the winning pitcher. Miller had two RBI and scored three times while Madison Galligan and Megan Nelson each drove in two runs. Jessica Faacks added a two-run triple.

Also on June 25, the Pequot Lakes Red 14-under squad split a doubleheader with Baxter - losing the opener 9-8 before rallying to win the second game 5-4.

12-U team earns sweep

The Pequot Lakes' 12-under team swept the Baxter Blue squad 15-5 and 13-5 on Tuesday, June 26. In the opener, Bre Sewall pitched all four innings. She struck out five while allowing two hits. Baxter pitchers walked 13.

In the second game, Baxter surrendered 13 walks while committing four errors. Hope Anderson pitched for Pequot Lakes, allowing three hits and striking out four. Alex Holm, Karlie Trottier and Anderson each had hits.
