Nisswa Lightning clinch Victory League North title

The Nisswa Lightning amateur baseball team dismantled the Cuyuna Range Miners 11-1 on Sunday, July 1 to clinch the Victory League North Division title.

The Lightning also earned an automatic bid to the Region 8C tournament.

Nisswa's Jason Roepke went 2-for-4 with a home run while Mike Zauhar was 2-for-5 with RBI and a stolen base. Mark Germain also went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Lightning.

Winning pitcher Brett Cloutier allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four.

Nisswa 14, Flensburg 0

Nisswa exploded for a 14-0 seven-inning victory over Flensburg earlier on Sunday, July 1.

Tyler Wittwer and Jason Roepke both hit home runs for the Lightning. Roepke drove in five runs and scored twice. Luke Schumer scored three times and drove in a run for Nisswa.

Lincoln Messner went the distance for the win. He struck out eight and allowed no runs on four hits.

Nisswa 5, Fort Ripley 0

On Friday, June 29, Luke Schumer struck out six in a complete game shutout and helped his cause by going 3-5 with two runs and an RBI in a 5-0 win over Fort Ripley.

Drew Boland went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and stolen base for Nisswa. Luke Schumer was the winning pitcher as Nisswa enjoyed an 8-4 edge in hits.

Rob Veith Jr. was 2-5 with a double and Brett Kramer added a double for Fort Ripley. The Rebels made four errors while Nisswa had three.

The Lightning are scheduled to host the St. Joseph Saints at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7, in a non-league matchup at the community park in downtown Nisswa.
