The Crosslake-Fifty Lakes/Pequot Lakes American Legion baseball team was swept by Pierz 5-0 and 9-6 in a doubleheader on Thursday, June 28, at Crosslake.
In a home doubleheader on Tuesday, June 26, the winless Crosslake-FL/PL squad was defeated by Aitkin 11-5 before the second game was suspended due to darkness while being tied 8-8.
Pierz sweeps Crosslake-FL/PL
In the opener on June 28, Pierz rapped out 12 hits against losing pitcher Nick Greiner while Logan Meyer scatted four hits to earn the victory.
Meyer drove in the first run with a double, and he also pitched three perfect innings.
Crosslake-FL/PL didn't get its first hit until Travis Noska and Zach Cogan both singled in the fourth. Meyer then struck out Connor Chambers and Gaven Bickford to end the threat.
The only other hits Meyer allowed were singles by Bickford and Aaron Parker in the seventh when Crosslake-FL/PL left the bases loaded following a double play. Noah Boser and Nick Lohner each had two hits for Pierz.
"We just left too many runners on base, and didn't come up with the big hit," said Crosslake-FL/PL coach John Kostaska.
In the second game, Pierz took a 6-0 lead after two innings. The hosts finally scored when Hunter Leslie led off with a double and scored on Parker's triple. Austin Mesenbrink grounded out to score Parker.
Pierz added three runs in the fifth after Crosslake-FL/PL had cut the deficit to 6-4 with four singles in the fourth. Pierz led 9-4 before the hosts added two runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by Parker and Mesenbrink.
"We had the bases loaded after two runs had scored in the fifth," Kostaska said. "We could have used a gap double."

Parker finished with three hits and two RBI while Mesenbrink had two hits and three RBI. Brad and Logan Meyer, Noah Boser and Lochner each had two hits for Pierz.
Aitkin downs Crosslake-FL/PL
On June 26, visiting Aitkin defeated Crosslake-FL/PL 11-5 in the opener as Peter Kostecka was the losing pitcher and Evan Ferdelman gained the win.
Cogan had two hits and drove in four runs whiel Nathan Ehnstrom and Dean Lynn were each 2-fo4-3 for Aitkin.
In the suspended second game, Logan Quade pitched for Aitkin while Cogan started for the hosts. Cogan had two hits and drove in a pair of runs while Quade and Isaac Collins each had two hits for Aitkin.
