Maggie Heggerston of Pequot Lakes shot an 84 Sunday, June 24, during the Tri-State Optimist Qualifier at Cragun's Legacy Courses to finish third and qualify for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship.

Heggerston, a two-time Class 2A state meet participant, finished four shots behind Lila Kendall Taylor of McLean, Virginia, who won the girls' 15-18 division with an 80. Grand Rapids' Dani DelGreco was second with an 82.

The Optimist championship will be July 24-29 at PGA National Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.

Last season, Heggerston qualified for the International championship in the 13-14 age group and finished 50th.

Among other area players who competed, Thomas Stoxen of East Gull Lake finished tied for 12th in the boys' 16-18 division and Kevin Beltz of Pequot Lakes was 39th.
