At our Lake Ossawinnamakee Lake Association meeting this morning, one of the Lake Improvement members shared information that the Crow Wing County Sheriff has come out in favor of a temporary "no wake" zone on local lakes, due to the increased lake water levels, docks being under water, shoreline erosion etc. due to torrential rainfalls in the area.
Some of our lake members have put signs on their docks, "No Wake Please" and I have personally seen boats disregard the signs, and drive at full speed.
Lake users, please remember, we are only visitors to these lakes (even if we live here full time). We must respect our lakes as they are in the process of coping with an unusual situation for them and for us. With the upcoming Fourth of July and subsequent increased lake use, let us remember to be mindful boaters, this is a temporary situation that requires all of us to be good stewards of the area lakes.
