Run for the Walleye is July 7 in Crosslake

The 2012 Run for the Walleye, a traditional Fourth of July weekend event that benefits walleye habitat, will take place Saturday, July 7, in

Crosslake.

The event is open to the public and all ages are welcome. Registration will be from 7:15-8:30 a.m. at the Crosslake Community Center. Online registration is available at walleyerun.zapevent.com, or download an early registration form at www.wapoa.org. Paper registration forms are also available at the Crosslake Community Center.

Cost of registration will be $25 on the day of the race. Early registration is $20. Participation in the Kids' Sunfish Dash costs $5 per child (age 12 and under).

Chip timing and a certified race route will help those runners wishing to improve with an official finishing time.

Following are the race times:

Kids' Sunfish Dash will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. Racers are divided by age group, and there are prizes for the kids.

Runners and walkers will take off in the adult 5K run/walk at 9 a.m.

Those who don't run are invited to come and cheer on the runners or donate to the cause of helping improve walleye habitat by earmarking checks to "Walleye Habitat" and mail to WAPOA, P.O. Box 342, Crosslake, MN 56442.

There will be food and beverages available for runners in the pavilion at the Crosslake Community Center. Prizes will be awarded after the races.

The Run for the Walleye is sponsored by the Whitefish Area Property Owners Association, Lakeside Lawn & Landscaping, Lakeland Agency and Lakes State Bank, the Crosslake-Ideal Lions, Anytime Fitness and other individual donors.
