Pine River City Council is one step closer to assisting Pine River citizens with housing and commercial improvements.
The council, May 13, approved a policies and procedure handbook for the city's Small Cities Development Program.
The City of Pine River was approved for a $339,600 grant to rehabilitate eight owner-occupied housing units and rehabilitate eight commercial buildings.
The Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) grant was awarded on behalf of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
Projects through the program will be a mix of owner-financed plus zero interest deferred loans with no monthly payments. Homeowners in the city limits must meet low- to moderate-income guidelines to be eligible.
Cass County Economic Development Corporation will provide general administration for the SCDP. They will also handle completing the environmental assessment and other program requirements.
Gail Leverson, director of the CCEDC, presented the handbook to the council for approval.
Two informational meetings will be held about the SCDP:
Building contractors meeting: 3 p.m., Thursday, May 29, City Hall.
SCDP process and eligibility meeting: 6 p.m., Thursday, May 29, City Hall.
