Now that the fishing opener and the all-city garage sale are over, it seems as though spring truly has arrived. There are numerous events still to take place in Pequot Lakes that you definitely want to get onto your calendar.
For June, first on the calendar is the Cherry Car Show, an amazing display of antique cars that will line the northern section of the park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 5.
Next will be Pequot's first ever Pet Pageant and Parade on Saturday, June 19. Registration will take place at the high school parking lot starting at noon and the parade will begin there at 1 p.m. All proceeds for this event will benefit H.A.R.T.
Remember, this is for all kinds of animals - horses, dogs, cats, whatever. Since I no longer have a dog, I'm thinking of a turtle or goldfish.
If you have questions, call Barb Merritt at 568-4695. Please come out to support this new event.
Then July arrives and Market in the Park, fun shopping along the bike trail sponsored by the city's Business Connect group, will once again occur every Thursday starting on July 1. If you are interested in having a space (by the week or entire season), contact Sue at the chamber at 568-8911; prices are extremely reasonable.
Of course, our annual Stars and Stripes event takes place July 3 and 4. The parade will be at 1 p.m. Sunday the 4th.
Also, on Saturday, July 3, and Monday, July 5, the Pequot Library will have its annual book sale.
On Tuesday, July 13, beans for Bean Hole Days will be put to bake; if you don't make that evening, be sure to get in line on Wednesday, the 14th at noon for a taste of those free beans.
Yet to come, another first for our community: We will be hosting a stop on the MS Tram, a bike ride across the state that benefits Multiple Sclerosis, on Tuesday, July 27. There will be more than 1,000 bikers coming through town with bands, booths and events taking place all afternoon and evening.
They'll be leaving early in the morning of Wednesday, July 28, so don't miss greeting everyone and welcoming them.
Finally, the Chokecherry Festival is on Saturday, Aug. 14, and the Taste of Pequot will be Saturday, Sept. 18. If you haven't purchased your chokecherry trees ($10 each) from the Park Board, be sure to call city hall at 568-5222 to order them.
Any profit from the sale will go toward a new playground in the center of town.
