Amy needs a friend for summer activities

School is almost out for another year. Lately I have heard so many kids talking about what they are going to do during summer vacation.

But for many of the kids on Kinship's waiting list, their summer plans don't include many activities. If they had an adult partner to do things with, their summer vacation would be something they would really look forward to.

Let me tell you about one of the girls on our waiting list. Amy is a 9-year-old fourth-grader who lives with her mom in Brainerd. She is an easy-going, energetic young girl who has a wide variety of interests, including bike riding, spectator sports, fishing, and arts and crafts projects.

Amy describes herself by saying, "I'm active, like to have fun and go out and do stuff and make people laugh."

She wants an adult partner so she can know what a grownup friend is like. Her mother hopes Amy is partnered with a mentor who will have fun with her, talk to her and be a positive role model for her.

Matching Amy with an adult woman who will be a consistent, positive presence in her life would be very beneficial. Amy would love to have a friend with whom she could spend special time doing summer activities.
