After years of operating her beauty salon and spa at her home west of Jenkins, Cathy Stattelman has moved to town.
Stattelman opened Bliss Spalon in the North Lakes Center building on Main Street in Pequot Lakes. Bliss Spalon now anchors the western end of the building that houses Expressions Shoe Center.
"The Pequot Lakes community was so eager to help and to bring us here," said Stattelman, who owned and operated Beauty by Design before changing the name to Bliss Spalon three years ago.
It was a family effort to convert the building for use as a salon and spa. Stattelman's husband, Wes, was supportive and helpful, and she and daughter Rachel put in late nights painting walls.
The result is a modern yet cozy salon and spa that Stattelman said is for men as well as women.
Stattelman is excited about the makeup bar in the salon, where women can "play" with mineral-based makeup by Beauty by Bliss, just like little girls trying on makeup.
"The concept is for women to come in, sit down and let us educate them on what works and what doesn't work," Stattelman said, noting the goal is to take women out of their safety zone and show them how makeup can be used to make them look good.
Tattooing is a big part of the business. Stattelman has a private room where she applies permanent cosmetics in the form of eyeliner, eyebrows, lip color and corrective makeup.
The aesthetics room is for chemical peels, microderm abrasian, full body waxing and sugaring. There is a single massage room, as well as a couples massage room for two people. Manicures are offered, and a pedicure room has two elevated chairs.
Stattelman offers yoga in a larger room with a wet bar that she hopes will also be used for knitting groups, book clubs or similar groups.
Bliss Spalon is open seven days a week and has 10 employees.
