Author Jim Proebstle will visit the Pequot Lakes Community Library at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5.
Proebstle's first novel, "In the Absence of Honor," is a story of conspiracy and intrigue set in northern Minnesota. When Jake Lorenz retreats to his family's cabin in the Minnesota woods for the winter, he's looking for peace, quiet and time to reflect on the loss of his wife and his job.
Instead, he suddenly finds himself embroiled in a struggle for land, wealth and power. Jake must battle personal demons and the deadly forces of man and nature to learn the truth.
With origins dating back 200 years, and outcomes that could appear in tomorrow's newspaper, "In the Absence of Honor" whisks readers through a tale of conspiracy, fraud, deception and betrayal that reverberates from a small northern community and Indian reservation to powerful forces in Washington, D.C.
Proebstle recently completed his second novel, the story of his uncle, pilot Nick Morgan, and a devastating plane crash during World War II.
Proebstle is president of Prodyne, Inc., a management-consulting firm. His professional career included time at IBM, Xerox and Bell & Howell. Proebstle and his wife, Carole, live in Deer Park, Illinois, and spend summers in northern Minnesota.
This is a free program and is open to anyone interested. There is no need to preregister. For more information, call the library at 568-6181.
Proebstle also be at the Brainerd Public Library from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, as the first author in the Brown Bag Lunch Summer Speakers' Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library.
Proebstle's author visits are part of the Kitchigami Reads/Kitchigami Writes project with funding from the State of Minnesota Legacy Fund to preserve arts and cultural heritage.
