Kurtis Moody and Michael Goerges of Pequot Lakes were recently chosen to the All-Mid-State Conference boys' basketball team while the Patriots' Michael Ward received honorable mention.
Moody, a junior, averaged a team-high 14.9 points, and also led Pequot Lakes with 192 rebounds. Goerges, a senior, was second with a 11.2 scoring average while also adding 79 assists and 46 steals. Ward, a senior who reached the 1,000-point milestone this winter, averaged 8.4 points and had 167 rebounds for the Patriots, who finished 4-6 in the conference and 17-11 overall.
Jordan Riewer of Staples-Motley was chosen Mid-State Conference player of the year after averaging 14.7 points. Lynn Peterson of S-M and Dave Galovich of Crosby-Ironton were chosen co-coaches of the year after their teams shared the title in the Mid-State.
The Rangers, who elminated Pequot Lakes in the South Subsection 8AA semifinals, advanced to this week's state tournament by defeating Thief River Falls 57-43 in the Section 8AA final. The Cardinals missed a chance to advance to state after losing the Section 6AA final against New London-Spicer 71-68 in overtime on a three-point basket at the buzzer.
Other players making all-conference were Derek Wolhowe and Jon Bristow of S-M; Mark Hoge, Brock Tesdahl and Matt Hudrlik of C-I; Tyler Fode and Josh Stalberger of Detroit Lakes; and Scott Syverson and Ryan Nelson of Wadena-Deer Creek.
All of the all-conference players were seniors except Moody and Stahlberger.
Other honorable mention selections were Paul Dirks of Park Rapids, Tler Dickie and Sam Baker of C-I, Jordan Peterson and Jason Johnson of S-M, Jordan Reed of W-DC, and Brian Labat of Detroit Lakes.
Each of the honorable mention selections are seniors except Labat, who is a sophomore, and Reed, a junior.
