Former Northern Lakes Lightning goaltender Trey Flesch, a 2009 Pequot Lakes graduate, has been busy stopping pucks at a variety of levels this winter.
Flesch is currently playing for the Massachusetts Maple Leafs, who will be playing for the USA Hockey Tier III Junior Hockey National Championships this weekend in Marlborough, Ma.
Flesch started the season last September with the Fort Frances Lakers of the SIJHL. He was later traded to Spooner, Wis. A few weeks later he signed with the Minnesota Wildcats, a Minnesota Junior Hockey League team based out of Maple Grove.
Flesch was the starting goaltender for the Wildcats from October to late December, according to his dad, Jim Flesch.
"Trey had an opportunity to play out east and decided to go for it," Jim Flesch said. "I believe the team he is on now (Maple Leafs) has been to the nationals the past four years. So he's living the dream, and hopes to come back to the Midwest and play in the NAHL, which is Tier II Junior A."
Jim Flesch added that his son was recently invited to play on a team based out of Denver and may be playing in Sweden in August.
