There's no place like the road for the Nikiski football team.

At least that's been the message lately from coach Ted Riddall to his Bulldogs squad.

Nikiski is in the middle of a two-week stretch in which it travels 3,600 miles for a pair of road contests. The Bulldogs made a journey last week to Juneau, where they defeated nonconference opponent Thunder Mountain 46-6.

Now they are headed for the Arctic, facing undefeated Barrow at 1 p.m. Saturday.

September means that golf season is winding down on the Kenai Peninsula, so for all you obsessed duffers out there make sure to take advantage of however many sunny days we have left.

There are a few remaining events still on the calendar our golfers should be aware of. The B & B golf tournament, which is played at both Bird Homestead and Birch Ridge, will be held Sept. 11.

The host Soldotna volleyball team delivered a near wire-to-wire victory over Nikiski in nonleague action Tuesday, winning 25-11, 25-13 and 27-25.

The Stars (3-0 overall, 1-0 Northern Lights Conference) didn’t trail until late in the third game, when the Bulldogs took a 25-24 lead before losing the final three points.

“I thought the girls played well in all phases of the game,” SoHi coach Bruce King said. “They passed well, communicated with each other and played good defense.”

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions - Motocross Division held its final city race of the season Saturday at Twin Cities Raceway. The results follow:
