Host Skyview notched 25-11, 25-15 and 25-14 victories over Kenai Central on Tuesday in Northern Lights Conference action.

Skyview moves to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Amanda McDowell had 12 kills, 10 service points and four blocks to lead the Panthers.

"Amanda McDowell was solid in all aspects of the game," Skyview coach Sheila Kupferschmid said. "When she wants to turn it on - wow, look out."

Mary Hauptman added nine service points for Skyview.

"Mary Hauptman had a very nice match running the offense," Kupferschmid said.

The Nikiski volleyball team defeated Unalaska on Friday before losing to Seward on Saturday. Both games were at Nikiski.

On Friday, the Bulldogs topped Unalaska 25-15, 25-15 and 25-10 for a nonconference win. Nikiski coach Amber Oliva-Douglas said it was a fun victory and the whole team played well.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs and Seahawks split four close games before Seward prevailed 15-12 in the fifth game. The loss left Nikiski at 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the Southcentral Conference.

Oliva-Douglas said the match was a good sign for the future.

The Kenai River Brown Bears dropped a 4-2 decision to the Fresno (Calif.) Monsters on Sunday at the Soldotna Sports Center in front of 516 fans.

Fresno moves into sole possession of second place in the North American Hockey League West Division with a 7-0-2 record, good for 16 points. The Brown Bears are alone in third at 7-4-0, good for 14 points.

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs are in first place with 19 points.

The Kenai Central girls and Soldotna boys swimming and diving squads won team trophies at the Seward Invite on Saturday.

The Kards took first with 117 points, finishing ahead up runner-up Soldotna (72) and third-place Homer (71). Seward was fourth with 67, while Skyview placed fifth with three.

On the boys side, Soldotna earned first with 131 points. Homer was second with 105, while Kenai Central (43), Seward (41) and Skyview (eight) took third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
