The Northern Lights Conference announced its all-conference squad Sunday.

AJ Hull of medium-schools First National Bowl champion Kenai Central was named the offensive player of the year. Hull made the first team at quarterback, return specialist, defensive back and punter.

Auston Tennis of conference champion Soldotna was named the defensive player of the year. Tennis made the first team at halfback and defensive back.

Drew Raymond of conference runner-up Homer was the lineman of the year. Raymond made first team at guard and interior lineman.

Kenai Central defeated Homer 26-14 on Saturday at Chugiak High School to win the medium-schools First National Bowl.

It is the first time a champion in the medium-schools division has been crowned. Kenai, which had five small-schools titles to its credit, battled a Mariners team that was playing in its first ever football championship game.

"It was intense, definitely intense," Homer senior running back Hoss Frank said.

For Kenai, the state championship stage is something to which they're accustomed.

The Skyview volleyball team made sure senior night didn't turn into Colony middle blockers night.

The Knights feature a pair of athletic middle blockers - Allison Leigh and Mary Klapperich - who were the tallest players on the floor Friday at Skyview.

Panthers coach Sheila Kupferschmid came up with a plan to contain the middle blockers, and Skyview executed it in a 27-25, 27-25 and 25-17 Northern Lights Conference victory.

After getting swept by Palmer on Saturday, Skyview moves to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Nikiski defeated Barrow 52-21 to win the small-schools First National Bowl on Saturday at Tom Huffer Sr. Field at Chugiak High School.

It is Nikiski's first state title since 2001. Barrow (7-2 overall) had defeated Nikiski earlier in the season.

"It worked out like a storybook that we get another opportunity to play Barrow," Bulldogs coach Ted Riddall said after his team finished 9-1 overall. "The kids were really looking forward to that."
