On June 25 and 26, 1876, a group blindly followed their leader into battle. He believed he had a good plan; however, the information it was based on was poor and incomplete. The tragic results were the loss of 268 lives in his forces, including his own, and many more on the opposing side.  This snapshot in history occurred at the Little Bighorn river. The leader was General George Custer.

The Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Awareness group would like to extend a big Thank You to all those who helped with the fund raising event at the Peninsula Oilers baseball game on July 3rd at the Coral Seymour baseball park in Kenai.

The fund raising effort for Prostate Cancer Awareness on the Peninsula was sponsored by the Central Peninsula Health Foundation, the Peninsula Oilers and many others including the following supporters:

Central Peninsula Hospital for buying all the admissions to the park, the hot dogs and supplies.

Our second annual Senior Moments Barbecue and Biggest Clam Contest was again a huge success, thanks to the generous “loan” of the corner lot owned by John and Bev Hylen, to over 40 very energetic volunteers and to our generous and supportive community. It was held at the Senior Gazebo at Kingsley and Sterling Highway on July 2 and 3. Hearty Texas-style beef brisket and Kentucky-style pulled pork sandwiches were made and served with sides of Pinto beans, baked beans, coleslaw, and Nana’s macaroni salad. The bake sale provided delicious fresh-baked desserts to make the meal complete.

Ever since I joined the CPGH, Inc. Board of Directors in 2005, people I meet ask, “What’s going on at the hospital?” Many times the person is just making interested conversation but when CPH is in the news, it’s usually an explanation they’re seeking. Most recently, CPH has been in the news because our Chief Executive Officer, Ryan Smith and our Chief Financial Officer, Jason Paret, have announced their resignations. Their reasons are both personal and public and some have been reported previously in the Clarion. Indeed, this is a time of transition in leadership for our organization.
