Letter to the editor: Group brings flower baskets to Crosslake bridges
Two bridges in Crosslake will have a new look this summer thanks to the efforts of the Crosslakers.
After the Minnesota Design Team visited Crosslake in 2016, a Crosslakers Connectivity Work Group was formed to figure out how to create a theme throughout all of Crosslake; to make our sprawling community feel more cohesive. Paths, trails, themed crosswalks, waterways, way-finding signs and city-wide beautification are just a few of the ideas the group has been researching.
This summer, one of those ideas has come to fruition and you'll soon see beautiful flower baskets adorning the Daggett Pine and Pine River bridges on County Road 66. Thank you to Pat Netko, chair of the Connectivity Work Group, who has spent many hours researching and organizing the efforts, and thank you to Jeremy Knippel Welding, North Wedge Greenhouse, Crow Wing County, the city of Crosslake and Sam Shirey, who is designing the solar watering system.
The city of Crosslake funded the project, which includes the cost of the hardware and watering system that will be re-used for years to come. This year, the funding will cover 12 feet of flowers on each side of the two bridges. Going forward we would like to see the entire 40-foot span of the bridge railings covered with flowers, and a third bridge on County Road 16 added!
If you are interested in helping the Crosslakers grow this beautification project to include more flower baskets next spring, please mail your donation to Crosslakers, 37028 County Road 66, Crosslake, MN 56442.
