The Halloween Trunk Or Treat in Kasilof was a big success. Cohoe FireWise and the Kasilof Eagles annually provide this safe and supervised opportunity with the support of many volunteers. There were well over 100 kids and at least 10 Trunks, with approx. 69 vehicles that delivered kids.
We had 4 fires for roasting hotdogs, marshmallows, and cold toes. We were also able to light off the smallest pile of slash, and it provided warmth and lots of fascination for all. There were so many great costumes, even several costumed puppies, dogs, and even a chicken! The trunks were well decorated, and next year we will have prizes for the best ones, so start planning now!
This even wouldn't be possible without DOT from Soldotna and Ninilchik. They lease us the pit for slash disposal, help us keep the pit maintained, and kindly tolerate us being in their way sometimes. These are some great people helping our community to be safe.
We want to extend our gratitude to Frontier Community Services who printed up our flyers, the Tustumena Elementary School staff who distributed them, and all the local businesses who let us post them. Our appreciation also goes to the local media, like KSRM, KDLL, and the Peninsula Clarion, for including us in their Community Calendars.
We greatly value the donations of time and materials from everyone involved. In particular we want to mention CES and Chief Mokracek, The Borough's Office of Emergency Management, The Kasilof Mercantile, Kaladi Bros., Three Bears, Hostess - Regal Distributers, The Catos, Dave Johnson, Nancy Kitchen, Diane McClure, Shawn Reynolds, Nancy Russell, Roberta Wilfong, and Shawna and Fritz Wolk.
Cohoe FireWise and the Kasilof Eagles Aerie #4317 thank all their members who pitched in, and the trunk owners who volunteer their time and treats. Special thanks to the State Troopers' sergeant who managed to come out and show support.
It is nice to know that somewhere in America, this sort of community spirit still lives!
