Time to bring all the troops home

Posted: October 19, 2011 - 11:45am

Finally, after two decades we have set a timeline to remove all troops from Iraq. Let's see how that works out. Afghanistan? Who knows? As well, we have US planes in coalition with some other UN countries defending the liberators of Libya.

Now, it seems President Obama has deemed it necessary to send 100 Green Berets to Uganda. The news releases say they are only there to train the troops, and aren't supposed to get involved in combat unless attacked. The article failed to mention the president is planning to send more, subject to the approval of each respective host nation, elements of U.S. forces to South Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The statement about being there in a non-combat role reeks suspiciously of one made in May, 1961, when Kennedy sent 400 advisors to Vietnam. If it is so necessary to intervene in the internal workings of these countries why doesn't the UN take a unified position and send troops. Why is the US the only country taking a stand on this?

Am I the only one sick of reading about our young men and women dying or getting maimed defending countries with corrupt governments and disloyal troops.  It's time to call a halt to being the world's self appointed policeman!
