Unlike the travelers who stop for a minute or two and then continue on the Sterling Highway, Cooper Landing’s newest Winnebago is parked for the long-haul.

The 1996 34-foot vehicle was designed to be a mobile health clinic, not a home on the road.

“It’s custom made,” said Connie Cates, a project manager at Peninsula Community Health Services.

The Winnebago has two exam rooms, phone hook-ups and data hook-ups. It’s equipped for a wide-variety of basic health services.

Escopeta wasn’t the only oil and gas company in Kenai on Wednesday.

Buccaneer Alaska’s Mark Landt stopped in at Kenai Chamber of Commerce’s weekly lunch to brief the community on his company’s operations.

“We look forward to being here a long time,” Landt said.

The company’s most immediate development is an onshore site behind Walmart, near Marathon’s Cannery Loop site.

Landt said the company will likely spud a second well in that area in the next two weeks.

The Spartan jack-up rig brought to the Cook Inlet by Escopeta Oil earlier this week was still waiting in Kachemak Bay for approval to move Tuesday.

“We have to file paperwork with customs to move it,” Steve Sutherlin, a spokesman for Escopeta, said Tuesday.

That’s a requirement for all foreign-flagged vessels, Sutherlin said.

Sutherlin worked on that process Tuesday morning.

Now the company is waiting for permission to move to the well location.
