Just halfway through the 2012 fiscal year, the city of Kenai is already looking to the next budget cycle.

So far, Kenai is poised to do well in the state’s FY2013 capital budget.

The governor’s budget, released last week, included nearly $5 million for city of Kenai roads and water systems.

“The city of Kenai did exceptionally well,” said Rick Koch, Kenai’s city manager.

Interim Central Peninsula Hospital Chief Executive Officer Rick Davis is staying put.

The Central Peninsula Hospital Board of Directors announced Monday Davis would be the facility's new CEO.

"Rick Davis brings an impressive resume' as a hospital administrator," Loren Wiemer, CPH Board President said in a press release. "We have tremendous confidence in his ability to lead us on our quest to become a regional medical center focused on improving individual and community health, while achieving national standards of excellence."

Homer Electric Association customers will likely see a change on their electric bills next month.

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska recently issued an order tentatively approving HEA's plan to restructure rates. If given final approval, which HEA expects to happen by the end of the month, the changes would go into place Jan. 1.

Marine Sgt. Boyd Jorgensen went on a shopping spree this weekend.

Sunday marked the annual toy-buy organized by the Kenai Peninsula Toys for Tots program, putting to use cash donations that have been collected since Nov. 1.

"I go and spend all the money collected to local businesses around here and buy toys," said Jorgensen, the program's coordinator, on Friday.

Jorgensen said he will split up the cash donations between the volunteers and they will "pick a direction" and have an emphasis on buying local.
