For the first time, Alaska Christian College will have something they’ve never had before — a computer and science lab.

The Soldotna-based ACC has added three new classrooms to their campus — a computer lab, a science lab and a regular classroom. The official opening of the addition will take place today at a dedication ceremony from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. An open house will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“We are pushing forward,” ACC president Keith Hamilton said. “Our next goal is to offer an Associate of Arts degree. In order to do that we need to offer a science curriculum.”

Cook Inletkeeper officials have hired a new executive director to help lead the organization through a “restructuring effort,” according to a news release issued Wednesday.

The organization’s board of directors selected Wayne Jenkins, formerly the executive director at Georgia ForestWatch, to lead the organization after a nationwide search.

Kenai’s city council considered three resolutions at its regular meeting Wednesday.

The council agreed to spend money on technology updates and on items needed to manage the annual personal-use fishery, but opted to postpone a decision on the city’s land use table.

The council moved $71,000 to the general fund for fishery-related expenses, and shifted $63,000 for the technology work. Both actions were passed unanimously by the council members present, with councilman Brian Gabriel participating via teleconference and councilman Terry Bookey excused from attending.

Dance companies in Southcentral Alaska are a tight-knit mix of performers and choreographers. From classical ballet to modern dance, companies work together to cultivate culture throughout the area. 

“Our number one marketing strategy is really just to keep close relationships with other dance companies, so we can grow and nurture together,” Cara Parker, choreographer and marketing director for Peninsula Artists in Motion, said.
