Heavy rainfall may dominate weekend
Multiple rounds of strong to severe storms are possible through the weekend with large hail, damaging wind and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding, the National Weather Service in Duluth reported Friday, June 15.
The Brainerd lakes region was in a slight flash flood risk Saturday with northern Cass County in a marginal risk. A flash flood watch was issued for Aitkin County and parts of St. Louis County including Duluth along with Carlton and Pine counties.
Central Minnesota remains in a slight risk for severe weather Saturday with the risk falling to marginal by Sunday for most of Crow Wing County along with Todd, Morrison, Aitkin and Mille Lacs counties.
But there is a chance for high rain amounts. The National Weather Service reported southern Cass, central to northern Crow Wing County and a swath of central Aitkin County could receive as much as 3-4 inches of rain from the weekend storms. The surrounding environs and neighboring counties may receive 2-3 inches with locally higher amounts possible.
