Chiodi named National Merit program Commended Student
Pequot Lakes High School senior Madison Chiodi was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
PLHS Principal Aaron Nelson presented a letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program, to Chiodi.
"Madison is an outstanding student and a valued member of the Patriot family," Nelson said. "She is an active volunteer, a steward of the student culture at PLHS, and is driven to achieve her lofty goals through determination and hard work.
"I have enjoyed her leadership style and have found Madison to be an articulate, reasoned and empathetic voice for her peers," he said. "We celebrate with Madison as she is recognized for her academic distinction."
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation were recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," a spokesperson for NMSC said in a news release. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
