Power restored at Kenai River Campus

Power at Kenai Peninsula College's Kenai River Campus was restored Monday after the school went dark Sunday night.

Homer Electric Association spokesman Joe Gallagher said the outage was caused by a fault in the underground line to the college. The association was able to set up temporary transmission to the college Monday morning, Gallagher said.

HEA was still looking for the source of the outage. Gallagher said a crew would be looking for the problem, and make repairs once it was found.

Monday morning, the association also had a crew looking for the source of Sunday’s power outage in Kenai.

The Marathon substation, which serves about 2,500 customers, lost power Sunday afternoon when a transmission line went down. Crews could not immediately locate the problem, so the association reconfigured the distribution system to provide backup power. Gallgher said they looked for the problem Sunday, but couldn’t find it so crews continued that effort Monday. The association expects the problem to be on a transmission line from Kenai to Nikiski.
