Beyond the tennis courts and baseball fields at the Crosslake Community Center is a woodland oasis called the Nordic Ridge Recreation Area. This wooded area offers an abundance of outdoor activities: hiking, bird watching, viewing fall colors, photography, berry picking, geocaching, cross country skiing or walking with a furry companion.

The Parks & Recreation Department, along with volunteers, has been working for years to develop the Nordic Ridge Recreation Area for public enjoyment. Many of the trails have been widened within the past two years and grass seed has been planted to enhance many of the pathways.

The outer boundary currently reaches six miles, with many inner-looping trails. Special attractions along the pathways include views overlooking two lakes, water fowl, an osprey nest, majestic red pine trees and an abundance of wildlife.

The Nordic Ridge Recreation Area is a unique and yet unknown attraction. Expansion plans are in the making but necessitate funding.

The PAL (Parks & Library) Foundation of Crosslake has initiated a strategy to promote awareness and fundraising. It’s hopeful the trails will become a popular destination within the community.
