Van Bialon of Emily, a mycologist and member of the Minnesota Mycological Society and Paul Bunyan Mushroom Club, recently hit the jackpot when he found an assortment of choice edible wild mushrooms.
Here he displays the portion of his find that he was able to fit on his picnic table. Visible are two containers of armelaria mellea (honey fungus), assorted boletes, piles of grifola frondosa (hen of the woods or sheep’s head-maitake) and one large group of laetiporus sulphereus (chicken of the woods or sulphur shelves).
He reported having 10 hens of this size. The hunt for these shrooms took three hours; cleaning them took an additional 12.
