Following is the area conservation officer's report:

Conservation officer Nikki Shoutz (Pine River) followed up on a deer case from last fall and weed roller issues before they arise. Very few anglers ventured out this week after the latest snowstorm made ice conditions very difficult. Snowmobilers were checked (a first for April 20!) and Boat and Water Safety classes were lined up for June.

CO Mike Lee (Crosslake) assisted with in-service training held at Camp Ripley. Conservation Officers from all over the state come to Camp Ripley to complete mandatory training that is required by the Minnesota Post (Police Officer Standards and Training) Board. Officer Lee also received a call of an otter incidentally taken by a beaver trapper.

CO Jim Guida (Brainerd) worked at Camp Ripley with officers from around the state during annual in-service training. Officer Guida fielded an all-terrain vehicle complaint where a couple of neighborhood youth were observed riding wheelies down the street. Officer Guida also issued a car kill deer permit.

CO Tim Collette (Pequot Lakes) took calls of people driving over barricades set up for seasonal state forest closures, injured deer, and trucks blocking a public access at a lake. Some anglers are still venturing out on the ice by ATV with limited success and the shorelines are softening on some lakes, as a truck venturing out fell through in shallow water and had to be pulled out.

CO Karl Hadrits (Crosby) reported activity included attending annual training at Camp Ripley, checking fishing and trapping activity, and investigating complaints of suspicious fishing activity.

CO Jim Tischler (Cuyuna Country State Rec. Area) monitored angling and ATV activity and enforced temporary road and trail closures in the State Rec. Area and completed annual firearms and tactics training. He also completed required purchasing and administrative functions.
