S-M scored seven straight points for an early 13-6 lead. The Cardinals later led 17-13, but the visitors rallied for a 22-21 lead with 4:10 left in the half as Kelsey Hart came off the bench with a 3-point basket, Kayla Miller added a layup and Hart hit a nice jump shot. The Patriots grabbed a loose ball with 20 seconds left, and then Lane was fouled with 6.7 seconds on the clock. Lane made the second free throw, and S-M moved in for a shot, but Miller blocked the attempt for the victory.
“Katie (White) was in foul trouble, and struggling with her shooting, but she turned a 3-point play and hit a big 3-point shot,” Dale said. “Kayla (Miller) and Vanessa (Lane) shot well all night, and Kelsey (Hart), Haley (Wiebolt), Emilee (Buell) and Caitie (Ryan) all stepped up for us. It was a big win against a ranked team.”
Miller poured in 18 points and Lane totaled 15 for the Patriots. Grace Wolhowe finished with 14 points, Mackenzie Holst collected 13 and Kelsy Zetah 10 for the Cardinals, who dropped to 12-5 overall.
