Posted: February 4, 2014 - 3:57pm

The Northern Lakes Lightning girls’ hockey team finished the regular season with a four-game winning streak after edging Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The Lightning, 10-13 overall, will compete in the Section 6A playoffs. Teams were seeded on Wednesday, Feb. 5, with the quarterfinals starting on Saturday, Feb. 8.

On Jan.30, Sam Bittner’s second period goal lifted visiting Northern Lakes to a non-conference win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek. Bittner’s goal was assisted by Lexi Danielson.

Isabella Abear’s unassisted goal in the first period had tied it 1-1. Lightning goaltender Madison Galligan finished with 22 saves.

“Our girls are playing well,” said Northern Lakes coach Kristen Harsha. “I think they’re figuring out that this is the final push, and we need to be at our best for the (Section 6A) playoffs.”

Harsha expects her squad to be seeded second or third for the first round.

“We’re looking forward to the playoffs because our section is pretty even,” she said.
