Megan Felthous had a triple-double with 42 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals in the Pine River-Backus Tigers’ 62-51 Northwoods Conference girls’ basketball victory over the Blackduck Drakes on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Tigers now have 10 victories this season after winning for the third time in the past four games. PR-B graduate Tatum Sheley scored 44 points in a game against Cass Lake-Bena on Dec. 9, 2011.
“I think we started this season a little rough,” said senior captain Journee Howard. “We had a lot of young and inexperienced girls who had to step up and take on roles they’ve never had before. As the season went on each individual, even the older girls, had improved in some way.”
“We are not the team that we were two months ago, and it shows. We’re still making some mental mistakes that I think has cost us some of our games. But when we work together and play smart basketball, that is when I believe our true colors show and we win as a team.”
The Tigers, 7-2 in the conference and 10-6 overall, is scheduled to play at Park Rapids on Thursday, Feb. 6, and Northome-Kelliher on Pine River-Backus’ community night on Friday, Feb. 7.
