The Pequot Lakes Patriots’ junior varsity boys’ basketball team earned a close victory over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines on Friday, Jan. 17.
“We were down by four points at the half, but we pressed them and go the lead back,” said junior varsity coach Alex Kunesh.
C-team boys win twice
The Pequot Lakes C-team won two of its past three games. The Patriots defeated Wadena-DC 61-50 on Friday, Jan. 17, after leading 33-27 at the half.
Erik Sandelin led Pequot Lakes with 17 points while Mike Pluimer had 11, Hunter Clement and Kirk Johnson had nine, and Andy Voges and Jack Keiffer had six.
On Thursday, Jan. 9, the C-team lost at Grand Rapids 52-31. Sandelin and Johnson each had six points while Clement had five.
At Sebeka on Jan. 10, the Patriots won 34-22 behind 11 points from Johnson and seven from Sandelin and six from Pluimer.
C-team girls win
The Pequot Lakes’ junior varsity and C-team girls’ basketball squads both beat Pillager on Jan. 16.
The junior varsity won 53-25 with Sam Littman and Laura Squires scoring 11 points, Corina Ruud added seven, Jessica Faacks and Caitlin Carkhuff with six and Morgan Lohmiller with four.
The C-team posted a 30-9 victory with Quinn Kratochvil and Elsa Headlee each with eight points, Chloe Bermel seven, Lyndsey Johnson five and Mallory Goerges two.
The junior varsity and C-teams also rolled to big wins against W-DC. The JV squad triumphed 68-23 after leading 37-10 at intermission. Littman had 22 points, followed by Faacks with 16, Lohmilller 12, Squires 10 and Carkhuff eight.
The C-team won 44-4 as Headlee led the way with 13 points, Johnson added 12, Bermel six, Kratochvil and Goerges four, Molly Dotty three and Sami Nelson two.
