The Pequot Lakes junior varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Esko 43-36 on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Patriots broke open their 28-24 halftime lead with a 15-0 run to start the second half. The rally was sparked by a pair of 3-point baskets by Jessica Faacks, five points from Laura Squires and four points from Barb Miller.
The Patriots increased their advantage to 56-29 before the Rangers cut the deficit to 13 points with a late flurry. Faacks led Pequot Lakes with 13 points, Squires had nine, Corina Ruud eight, Caitlyn Carkhuff, Miller and Lyndsey Johnson six, Morgan Lohmiller five and Sam Littman three.
“We got off to a slow start, but opened the game early in the second half, and put it away early,” said Patriots coach Kate Dale.
The Pequot Lakes seventh- and eighth-grade teams both beat Crosby-Ironton. The eighth-graders won 44-22 while the seventh graders won 44-20.
