The Northern Lakes Lightning girls’ hockey team edged the Sun Prairie Co-op Cougars (Wis.) 2-1 to finish seventh on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in the Schwan Cup Red division at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
“Because we won our (Schwan Cup) division last year we were moved up a division this year,” said Northern Lakes coach Kristen Harsha. “We knew going into the tourney we were going to be playing some very good teams. And although we took seventh, it was a great experience playing some talented teams.”

The Lightning, 6-9 overall, was postponed against Detroit Lakes due to inclement weather on Friday, Jan. 3. Northern Lakes is scheduled to play at Cambridge-Isanti on Thursday, Jan. 9.
