The Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew wrestling team defeated Osakis 49-25 and Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale 38-30 on Tuesday, Dec. 10, in a pair of makeup matches that had been postponed because of inclement weather.
“I expected the contest against B-H-V to be close they have some good returning wrestlers,” said Road Crew coach Travis Hoffarth.
Against Osakis, Darion Anderson (106) had three takedowns and three near-fall points to win 9-1. Anthoney Philipson (113) won with a quick pin while Spencer Richards (120) lost to Trenton Coyer, who is rated fifth.
Brandon Mager, who lost to fifth-ranked Brandon Coser at 126, was behind 4-0 going into the third period and fought back to with two reversals and three near fall points, but lost 8-7. Evan Gravdahl (132) pinned his opponent in 4:19. Dallin Sonnenstahl (138) lost, but Triston Rubner (145) won by forfeit. Dillon Nichols (152) won with a pin at 3:42, and both Nick Gravdahl (160) and Joe Harrison (170) won with forfeits. Ozzy Miller (182) was ahead 6-0 when he won by fall at 3:35. Justin Mackenthun (195) won 15-12 as both wrestlers scored six points in the final period. Cadel Roeder (220) and Sam Pelkey (285) lost the final matches.
Against B-H-V, Anderson lost to third-ranked Anthony Kern. Philipson got his second pin at 1:09 and Richards lost 7-4. Mager got revenge with an 8-6 win over Marshall Willis, who had defeated him earlier this season.
Sonnenstahl lost in an 11-6 contest and Evan Gravdahl was behind 4-0 when won by fall at 3:50. Rubner won by fall in 1:57 and Nichols dominated with a 15-0 win. Nick Gravdahl earned his pin with one second remaining. Miller was tied going into the third period, but ended up losing. Mackenthun won with a pin at 1:28. The Road Crew lost the final three matches as Foster fell 7-1, and Roeder and Pelkey were pinned by ranked opponents.
