The Northern Lakes Lightning girls’ hockey team was edged by Hutchinson 3-2 in a non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Goaltender Madison Galligan stopped 51 shots for Northern Lakes, which was outshot 54-29. Megan Snyder had a goal and an assist for Northern Lakes, which trailed 2-1 after the first period. Bella Abear also tallied for the Lightning to cut the defict to 3-2 in the second period.
“It was a tough loss,” Lightning head coach Kristen Harsha said. “We came out flat in the first period, but we started moving our feet in the second and third periods. We had plenty scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net.”
The Lightning, 4-5 overall, was scheduled to face Wadena-Deer Creek/Long Prairie on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and then host Hibbing on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Breezy Point Arena.

Lightning 4, Fergus 3
On Friday, Dec. 13, Northern Lakes triumphed by rallying from a 2-1 deficit with three straight goals to earn a non-conference win against the visiting Otters. Snyder scored twice while Lexi Danielson and Erika Monson also tallied for the Lightning. Abear, Mariah Reed, and Carly Fyle collected assists in the win.
“It was a big win over Fergus Falls,” Harsha said. “We have not beaten that team since I’ve been in this program (past three seasons). It was exciting. The girls played very well and fought until the very end.”
Galligan had 38 saves to earn the victory as Fergus Falls enjoyed a 41-25 edge in shots.
