The Pequot Lakes’ junior varsity and C-squad girls’ basketball teams both split their first two games of the season.
The junior varsity trailed the Thief River Falls Prowlers 24-20 at the half on Friday, Dec. 6, and went on to lose 52-41. Jessica Faacks led the Patriots with 14 points, Caitlin Carkhuff added nine, Cornia Ruud added seven, Laura Squires five, Sam Littman three, Kayla Geike two, and Barb Miller a free throw. Pequot Lakes was 10 for 23 at the free-throw line in the game.
At East Grand Forks on Saturday, Dec. 7, the Patriots led 21-19 at halftime, and went on to win 40-33. Faacks again led the Patriots with 15 points, Ruud had 10, Miller six, Squires four, Littman three and Carkhuff two. The Patriots were 10 of 21 at the free-throw line.
“The girls played pretty well in both games,” said coach Kate Dale. “Both Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks had good team, but we’re going to get better.”
The C-squad was tied with TRF 20-20 at the half before the Patriots went on to win 41-34.
Ruud scored a team-high 15 points, Chloe Bermel added 10, Lindsey Johnson six, Mallory Goerges and Elsa Headlee each with four, and Molly Dotty two.
The teams only played a half at EGF, and the Green Wave won 25-18. Ruud had 12 points, Quinn Kratokochvill four, and Johnson two.
