The Breezy Point North Stars snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the visiting Minnesota Flying Aces of Little Falls in Tier III junior hockey action on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The Aces assumed a 1-0 lead late in the second period, but the North Stars answered less than a minute later when Crosby Steen scored on the power play, assisted by Chris Hjorth and Kyle Eberwein. Breezy Point then added goals by Austin Williams and Isak Larson midway through the third period. Winning goaltender Joey Bergquist stopped 26 shots.
On Friday, Oct. 25, the North Stars fell to the Granite City Lumberjacks 5-2 as they were outshot 39-15. Breezy Point grabbed a 1-0 lead just 27 seconds into the second period. But the Lumberjacks bounced back with three goals in the middle period.
Kyle Whipple scored midway through the third period to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Granite City added two late goals, including an empty net tally, to win. Winning goaltender Austin Wilson had 13 saves while Bergquist stopped 34 shots.
Breezy Point is scheduled to play at Granite City on Friday, Nov. 1.
