The Pine River-Backus volleyball team ended a three-match losing streak with a 25-10, 25-14, 15-14 win over Clearbrook-Gonvick on Monday, Oct. 14.
Journee Howard registered nine set assists, eight ace serves and four kills while teammate Lainey Kangas added nine digs and seven kills for the Tigers.
PR-B, 11-9 overall, was scheduled to wrap up the regular season at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Blackduck 3, Tigers 2
On Friday, Oct. 11, PR-B fell to the visiting Blackduck Drakes in five games in a homecoming match. Blackduck edged PR-B 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-13.
Megan Felthous led the Tigers with 18 kills while Megan Porta racked up 14 kills, and Howard finished had 11.
In the first game, the Tigers trailed 19-18 when they went on a six-point run with kills by Lily Wiemann and Porta, and an ace serve by Felthous.
The second and third games were similar with the Tigers’ rally falling short each time. The Tigers trailed 8-7 in the fourth game when they went on a seven-point run, with a kills by Porta and Desirae Sonenstahl, to take the lead that they kept through the rest of the game.
The Tigers were up 11-10 in the fifth game when they gave up three kills in a row, and were unable to recover in the loss.
