Pending approval from three other schools, the Pequot Lakes School District will enter into a gymnastics cooperative with Crosby, Brainerd and Pillager districts.
At a special meeting Monday night, Oct. 7, the Pequot Lakes School Board voted in favor of joining the coop. In order for the coop to form, though, the other schools have to approve the agreement. The Minnesota State High School League also has to sign off on the arrangement.
By phone, Pequot Lakes activities director Marc Helmrichs said that Brainerd would be the host site of the cooperative. The arrangement would be similar to the cooperative agreements the school currently has with soccer and skiing.
Brainerd, Pillager and Crosby already have an existing team, Helmrich’s said, which Pequot Lakes will join if the schools agree.
Helmrichs said he anticipates three students who will join the girls gymnastics team if the arrangement works out. Similar to the agreement for soccer and skiing, they’ll pay an athletics fee to Brainerd High School to participate.
