The Pequot Lakes junior varsity football team was edged by the visiting Perham Yellowjackets 16-14 on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The Patriots scored in the second quarter on an admirable drive, which featured a 22-yard pass from CJ Borleis to Lance Squires to Perham’s 3. Chad Christianson then crossed the goal line on the right side. Borleis then passed to Erik Elverum for the two-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.
Perham tied it in the final seconds of the first half on a 31-yard scoring pass and a successful two-point conversion.
Both teams scored in the fourth quarter. The Patriots moved near the goal line when Christianson threw a 45-yard pass to Squires at the Perham 4. Christianson then crossed the goal line with 3:34 remaining. The conversion pass failed but the Patriots led 14-8.
Perham started the next possession at its 20, but mixed the pass and run to eventually score with 1:03 left to tie it 14-14. The Yellowjackets passed for the two-point conversion and the win.
