The Pequot Lakes volleyball team will be rebuilding after losing nine players from last season when the team finished 4-1 in the Mid-State Conference and 21-6-1 overall.
“We lost seven players to graduation to two more (senior Kayla Miller and sophomore Brittny Bzdok) to ACL injuries,” said Pequot Lakes coach Kate Dale. “So this will be a rebuilding year.”
The Patriots did gain back a former player in senior Vanessa Lane, who played volleyball before switching to cross country running last fall.
“Vanessa will help fill the void in the middle,” Dale said. “The girls are working hard in practice and are competing for spots on varsity. That has led to some competitive practices in the preseason.”
Letterwinners include seniors Ashley Abear, Katie White, Jessica Nies and Justyne Litzau; and sophomore Morgan Lohmiller.
Other who could contribute are juniors Brianna Anick, Emilee Buell, Sam Olmscheid, Mariah Reed, Kelsey Hart, Debbie Mitchel, Kristy Peterson and Whitney Marchwick; sophomores Laura Squires, Caitlyn Carkhuff, Barb Miller, Amanda Nies and Josie Florell; and freshman Sam Littman.
Assistant coaches are Mike Bacjzk, Kathy Allen, Jenna Crawford and Chris Ganley.
Last season, the Patriots were defeated by Thief River Falls in the Section 8AA championship match.
