The Nisswa American Legion baseball team outscored Hibbing 10-3 on Friday, July 12.
Dillon Solid’s RBI single in the second inning scored Logan McElfresh to tie it 1-1. Nate DeChaine later blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Beau Janousek pitched the first five innings before being relieved by McElfresh with a 5-3 lead.
Nisswa added five runs in the sixth inning, sparked by McElfresh’s two-run double that scored Connor Gessell and Janousek. McElfresh picked up the win, allowing one hit and one walk over three innings for Nisswa, which enjoyed a 13-5 edge in hits.
Nisswa, 9-7 overall, was scheduled to host Cold Spring in a double header on Wednesday, July 17.
Nisswa splits with Sauk Rapids
Nisswa split with Sauk Rapids on Tuesday, July 9 – winning the first game 5-3 while dropping the nightcap 6-3.
Derek Knoll improved to 3-0 as he pitched Nisswa to the victory in the opener. Knoll went six innings, allowing five hits and striking out five. Gessell pitched the final inning for the save. He also went 2-3 with a double and a walk. Solid was 3-4 with an RBI and McElfesh hit a double. Nisswa enjoyed a 12-6 edge in hits.
In the second game, Sauk Rapids had a 4-3 edge in hits while Nisswa committed four errors. Nate DeChaine was the losing pitcher while Gessell added a double.
