Posted: July 9, 2013 - 5:40pm

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will host a free youth fishing derby for kids ages 14 and younger Saturday, June 20, at its Leech Lake Recreation Area in Federal Dam.

Registration and activities will begin at 11 a.m. The fishing derby will be from noon to 1 p.m. with an awards presentation to follow. Trophies will be given for first, second and third place for longest fish caught in each age group.

Participants will be registered in one of the three age groups: 1-4 years, 5-9 years or 10-14 years. Every participant gets a prize.

All fishing will take place from both shores below the dam, with free hot dogs, chips and pop for contestants. Local merchants will provide the bait. All you need is your lucky fishing pole.

For more information, contact the park at 218-654-3145.
