The Pequot Lakes 16-under girls’ fast-pitch summer softball team swept visiting Pine River-Backus by scores of 10-0 in four innings and 21-2 in four innings on Wednesday, June 26.
In the opener, Katie White tossed a no-hitter with the only PR-B base runner coming on a second-inning walk. White also had nine strikeouts.
Pequot Lakes, 6-0 overall, scored twice in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and Taylor Crocker’s RBI single. White added a two-run single in the second inning, and Pequot Lakes scored two more in the third. Pequot Lakes ended the game with four runs in the fourth on RBI hits by Emilee Buell and Laura Squires.
Crocker had three hits and three RBI while White drove in three runs.
In the second game, Pequot Lakes had six runs in the first inning as pitcher Taya Salminen earned the victory. Barb Miller and White each tripled.
Pequot Lakes added a run in the second inning on Madison Galligan’s triple, and then scored 14 times in the third. White belted a three-run homer. Pequot Lakes had 16 hits, including three by Galligan and Emilee Buell and two by Croker and White. Salminen allowed just two hits, and also had a two-run single.
14-under team splits
The Pequot Lakes Blue 14-under split with Bemidji Huschle on Monday, June 24. Pequot Lakes lost the first game, but won the second game 6- 5. Meghan Nelson started the rally in the third inning with a three-run triple, while Caitlyn Carkhuff and Shelby Edblad each had RBI. Jessica Faacks hit a triple in the fifth inning, with Taya Salminen singling home Jessica Faacks with the winning run.
