Park Rapids sweeps PL/Jenkins
On Thursday, June 13, PL/Jenkins VFW squad was swept by visiting Park Rapids by scores for 11-8 in seven innings and 4-1 in five innings.
In the opener, PL/Jenkins led 2-1 after the first inning before Park Rapids tied it 2-2 in the second. Both teams scored in the third inning, but the visitors grabbed a big lead with three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth. PL/Jenkins did rally with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but still fell short.
“Connor Davich did a nice job pitching for us,” said Pequot Lakes coach Kyle Spray. “We made some errors that really hurt in the fourth and fifth innings.”
Mesenbrink was 2-for-3 while Jared Sewell had two doubles.
The second game was tied 1-1 after the first inning before Park Rapids added single runs in the second and third innings and another run in the fifth.
“We only had four hits,” Spray said. “We had our chances, but couldn’t get the big hit. (Park Rapids) also made some nice defensive plays.”
