Tigers lose in first round of baseball playoffs

The seventh-seeded Pine River-Backus Tigers baseball team was knocked out in the first round of North Subsection 6A playoffs by the No. 2 Menahga Braves 10-4 on Tuesday, May 28.

The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Zach Struss got on base on an error and went to second on a ground out by Jared Adkins. Nick Gravdahl got on base on a dropped-third-strike. Triston Rubner singled in Struss, Beau Howard loaded the bases when he got hit by a pitch, and Cole Larson walked to bring in Gravdahl.

The Tigers managed to hold off Menahga until the fourth inning when the Braves batted through their lineup almost two times and scored 10 runs.

The Tigers managed to get two more runs in the top of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough.

“We had one bad inning and it cost us the game,” said head coach Steve Snavely.

PR-B pitcher Zach Struss took the loss while Bobby Lusti was the winner. Rubner and Anthony Philipson each were 2-for-4 for the Tigers, who finish 7-7 overall. Both teams finished with eight hits. Menahga did commit four errors to just one for the Tigers,
